The Thought Readers

The Thought Readers

Author: Dima Zalen

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

Everyone thinks I’m a genius.

Everyone is wrong.

Sure, I finished Harvard at eighteen and now make crazy money at a hedge fund. But that’s not because I’m unusually smart or hard-working.

It’s because I cheat.

You see, I have a unique ability. I can go outside time into my own personal version of reality—the place I call “the Quiet”—where I can explore my surroundings while the rest of the world stands still.

I thought I was the only one who could do this—until I met her.

My name is Darren, and this is how I became entangled with all the Russians and learned that I’m a Reader.

Spoiler free Summary:

This book was free on the kindle and out had an interesting sounding plot, so I decided to download it to read while on vacation. It sounded similar to the typical free book plot of someone being a mind reader and then finding someone else who could also do this. Though it turned about to be a very interesting plot that was extremely different to the other books that I have read in the past.

The book started out with the author explaining how the power that the main character has works. I was super into the authors take on mind reads. I kept waiting for it to get better and then it just seemed to get really repetitive and going in circles. I mean I liked the overarching theme and plot that the author laid out, but it just wasn’t executed as well as it could have been. The character development was rushed. I felt like I couldn’t really understand these characters with the short backstory provided.

I mean this wasnt a bad book, it just wasnt a super good one either. Though this is to be expected from a free book on the kindle. It was a good book for being free, but I wouldn’t read it again.
